Judgment vs Understanding

“Before you Judge me, make sure you’re Perfect.”

― Ziad K. Abdelnou

One of the most popular hobbies these days is to judge people. We are so fond of passing our judgment in this world of social media where everyone is trying hard to project their image that doesn’t actually exist.

We listen, read and watch simply so that we can jump to conclusive judgment about what other person thinks, how he looks or the way he talks etc. Hardly a situation comes where we actually try to understand others around us.

This trend is common not just among people i know a little about or interact a little to but also among our close friends and even family. The most common conflicts in marriages occur just because we are full of expectations but many times fail to understand other person’s situation or feelings.

One of the most disturbing time in my past was when my best friends judged me for very same mistakes they made in past. They completely overlooked their mistakes and directed all their doubts at me when i needed them the most. In that situation i did what most of us do, i tried to avoid the situation instead of confronting it. That made the situation worse.

I believe we all need to practice the concept of understanding a little more in our daily lives. Like when we stuck in a traffic jam or someone tries to take over and we are in a  hurry, instead of cursing them, we can try to understand their situation. When a friend makes a mistake or shows frustration, we can try to understand them by reminding ourselves of our past mistakes. I believe that small shifts in our daily lives from being less judgmental and more understanding would provide us with more control over our lives.

This takes me to a famous quote by “Simon Sinek” about showing leadership in daily life;
