Need of Pakistan

As a patriotic Pakistani I love my country and I also love my national heroes. No, I’m not talking about some Religious or political figure but I’m talking about the very founding members of Pakistan like Mr. Jinnah. He was a man of vision and he had very clear thoughts about how Pakistan should be and what are the needs that must be fulfilled to materialize that vision.

A few years back when I was studying at Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of the Punjab, I organized a competition titled “Quotes of Quaid” as president of only society that ever existed in that institute. People were asked to post their fav. quotes by Mr. Jinnah (Quaid,e,Azam) along with 1-4 lines explaining why its their fav. quote and what they learned from it. The competition was successful, a lot of people participated in it and at the end winners who explained the best were given prize. What I was expecting that someone would post my fav. quote, which is by far the most overlooked as well as the most important one in my opinion.

“Education is the matter of life and death for Pakistan. The world is progressing so rapidly that without requisite advance in education, not only shall we be left behind others but may be wiped out altogether” Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Founder of Pakistan)

This quote is written at the start of every text book in Pakistan. This quote speaks about the most urgent need of Pakistan but unfortunately its the most overlooked quote by our leader. So, in that competition no one posted this quote except me. What I’m trying to point out here is that Pakistan’s most pressing issue is not corruption, not energy crisis, not job opportunities and also not extremism but education. Our leader saw this 70 years ago and we totally forgot about it. Every issue Pakistan is facing right now can be resolved only and only if we resolve the problems of education system first.

We have just entered the information era. This is the digital age we are entering into, where world’s largest businesses are all online. Where people are making millions of dollars just with innovative ideas to connect people on online social platforms. I believe, that right now what we need to promote is skill oriented education system, where we focus less on piece of paper called degree and more on skills. We need to promote skills like coding, which has the power to change the world. I believe with so much attention being focused on Pakistan especially with mega projects like CPEC, many of our problems will be resolved but the only problem that won’t be resolved that easily is the problem with our education system. As a learner, a student and a teacher I believe that education is the need of time.
